Arshad is Clinical Director of the Scottish Centre of Excellence for Dentistry. He established Niddrie Square Clinic in 2001 and it has become one of the leading dental centres in the United Kingdom. Due to continued growth of the clinic, the need arose to move to the custom built Scottish Centre for Excellence in Dentistry.
 
Arshad qualified with commendation at the University of Glasgow in 1978 and carried out ten years of postgraduate training in Glasgow, Cardiff, London and Sweden. He was the first NHS Consultant in Restorative Dentistry in Wales and, until recently, was Consultant in Restorative Dentistry in Glasgow Dental Hospital and School. He has been involved in implantology since 1985 and has continued to develop his expertise in this area. He was a winner of The Creative Circles Award at the 40th Anniversary Nobel Biocare World Conference in Las Vegas in 2005 and the Crown and Bridge and Implant Award at the NobelBiocare World Tour Conference in London in September 2006.
 
Arshad is committed to providing postgraduate education. He has given over 250 lectures and courses in the UK, Europe, North America, Hawaii and The Far East. He is currently providing lectures and hands-on courses in crowns, bridges and implants. He was also an Examiner for the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery Examination at The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He has served on the Specialist Advisory Committee at the Royal College of Surgeons and has been a Council member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He was also a Visiting Professor to the Department of Health and Medical Services for the Government of Dubai. He has published numerous papers in the dental literature. Abid graduated from the Glasgow Dental School before undertaking his diploma of membership of the faculty of dental surgery in Edinburgh and a masters degree at Glasgow University. He has trained with the best all over the world and limits his practice to implants and the management of complex restorative cases having placed over 1500 implants.
 
Abid has a particular interest in immediate loading and is the first surgeon outside London to carry out the NobelGuide Teeth-in-a-Hour™. Abid has also recently been appointed as an advisor for the British Society of Implantology. He has also been appointed to the editorial board for the publication Implant Dentistry and is part of a worldwide multicenter working group researching aspects of implantology.
 
Abid was voted 47th most influential person in dentistry in 2007. He was also recently awarded first place at the Nobel Biocare World tour in London presenting a Nobel Guide “teeth in an hour™ case study’. He was recently voted best young dentist in Scotland. He publishes regularly in dental journals and appears regularly in the media for his pioneering work. In the 2008 poll for most influential person in dentistry he was voted 37th. He is a trainer for NobelGuide and NobelActive. He has also recently been appointed trustee for the riverside museum appeal and is regularly involved in charity events.
